I selected the song "When You Ain't Got No Crew" because it reminds me of Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Ever since he was poor, ordinary James Gatz he wanted to be popular and wealthy. Luckily for Gatz, he did not have to work very hard to achieve this. When finally dove into the rich, party lifestyle he had always dreamed of, he found that he had no solid "crew" of friends, instead it was just a blur of random faces coming to party at his mansion. The phony life story that Gatsby preaches to Nick shows that he is not held together by any truth. Gatsby's fear of being ordinary and authentic prevents him from gaining substantial friends.
This picture of a gleeful infant driving a car relates to the scene in The Great Gatsby when Gatsby allows Daisy to drive his yellow car back from New York City. Daisy turns a corner sharply and, speeding down the road, accidentally mows over Myrtle Wilson, the married women with whom Daisy's husband, Tom, is having an affair. Daisy was originally in love with Gatsby before he left for the War. But during that time, she married Tom, a man of great wealth who now has proven to be a selfish unfaithful husband. When Daisy reappears in Gatsby's life, he gets hung up on winning back her love with his great wealth and popularity and foolishly allows her to take control of his heart and mind. This is exemplified in the photo i chose, because Gatsby is unaware that he is allowing a cute, carefree baby to steer his life into pit. Furthermore, Daisy does not take responsibility for the tragic death of Myrtle, and Gatsby pays for this with his life. To Next Page
